Abstract

Introduction: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a public health problem. These infections consist of the multiplication of a pathogenic agent acquired in the hospital by the patient or healthcare personnel. Objective: This research aimed to correlate the prevalence of HAIs with the duration of device use in the intensive care unit of the Abel Gilbert Pontón Specialty Hospital. Methods: The methodology was descriptive, analytical, non-experimental, and cross-sectional. The data source was the hospital's infection control department database. Results: A correlation exists between the prevalence of HAIs, such as bacteremia, and the duration of device use in the hospital's intensive care unit. Conclusion: This highlights the need to optimize and reduce device use times and, consequently, the morbidity and mortality rates associated with them consequently, the morbidity and mortality rates associated with them.
