Acute kidney injury is a common clinical syndrome in critically ill patients and is associated with high morbidity and mortality, especially in hemodialysis units. Objective: The objective was to describe nursing care in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury undergoing hemodialysis. Method: A qualitative documentary review was conducted, based on the analysis of 20 scientific articles indexed in international databases, selected using previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The results showed that the incidence and severity of acute kidney injury varied according to age, comorbidities, and clinical severity, with factors such as sepsis, ischemia, and chronic diseases standing out. Likewise, it was identified that nursing care was based on the Gordon and Henderson assessment models, aimed at comprehensive care, prevention of complications, and improvement of quality of life. Conclusion: It was concluded that specialized nursing care contributed to optimizing clinical outcomes and reducing associated risks.
