Abstract

Objective: identify the risk factors associated with extravasation in chemotherapy administration. Method: qualitative, descriptive, and applied research. A bibliographic review of the literature was conducted online using the databases PubMed, Scielo, Dialnet, LILACS, and Clinical Key. Results: the risk factors identified in chemotherapy extravasation include sociodemographic (age <6 and >65 years, female sex), medical (BMI, comorbidities, fragile or sclerosed veins), and technical (needle material, cannula size, venipuncture near joints). Patient mobility during administration, poor technique in device placement, and low nursing staff knowledge also contribute. Conclusion: extravasation in chemotherapy is a multifactorial event involving sociodemographic, clinical, technical, and professional aspects. Identifying these factors helps guide preventive strategies, improve nursing staff training, and optimize patient safety during treatment.
