Abstract

Objective: To analyze periodontal disease as a risk factor in pregnant mothers. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: Evidence suggests that periodontal disease is a significant risk factor during pregnancy, with potential negative implications for maternal and fetal health, such as increased risk of preterm delivery and low birth weight. Although some studies support the efficacy of periodontal treatment in reducing these risks, the literature remains contradictory, underscoring the need for additional research with more rigorous methodologies to clarify these effects.
