Tongue piercing and its repercussions on the oral cavity

Objective: To analyze tongue piercing and its repercussions in the oral cavity. Method: Descriptive documentary, the population was 15 scientific articles published in PubMed, Scielo, Latindex 2.0, Redalyc. Conclusion: The studies reviewed highlight the need for greater awareness and education on the risks associated with tongue piercing. This practice can induce significant complications in the oral cavity, ranging from immediate inflammation and pain to infections, soft and hard tissue injuries, and long-term periodontal problems.
