Nursing intervention in episodes of anxiety crisis in pre-surgical pediatric patients: literature review

Abstract

Introduction: The review addresses anxiety crises in preoperative pediatric patients, which are common due to the stressful hospital experience. Objective: to analyze the intervention of nursing staff in such crises. Method: descriptive systematic review applying PRISMA; 15 articles were included. Results: Five thematic areas were identified: nursing assessment of preoperative anxiety, risk factors, preoperative education, pharmacological management, and non-pharmacological methods; studies show that structured information and playful techniques reduce pediatric anxiety; findings on virtual educational strategies were reported. Conclusion: Preoperative nursing care improves the child's experience, reduces emotional and physical discomfort, promotes cooperation, and reduces the need for additional sedation or prolonged procedures, optimizing resources and clinical outcomes.
