Nursing care for the prevention of immediate post-surgical complications in patients undergoing thyroidectomy

Objective: To analyze nursing care and reduce immediate postoperative complications in patients undergoing thyroidectomy. Method: descriptive and explanatory qualitative review following PRISMA; search in PubMed, Scielo, Elsevier, and scientific journals with related keywords; from 60 initial sources, 15 were selected after applying criteria. Results: Prevention begins with preoperative evaluation and a multidisciplinary approach; nursing care allows for early detection of complications that affect recovery and hospital stay; mortality is low due to adequate surgical technique, although patients with long surgeries or large tumors are at greater risk. Conclusions: Nursing protocols that include breathing exercises, neck stretches, wound care, medication management, nutrition, and discharge instructions reduce complications and pain and improve patient knowledge.
